CSHBC, Cold Spring Harbor, NY
  • Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club is a family club located on the Eastern shore of a beautiful, protected harbor on the North Shore of Long Island. Founded in an old beach casino in 1921, the club added yacht racing in 1922 and tennis in the following year. A junior sailing program was established with 14 Abeking & Rasmussen dinghies in 1924, and active junior programs were quickly established in swimming and tennis as well. These sports, plus a snack bar and outdoor grill, remain the primary activities at the Beach Club today.   The club burgee was designed to depict swimming lanes and tennis balls on a yachting flag. In 1930, CSH sailors purchased 13 of the original Abeking & Rasmussen Atlantics, fresh off the boat from Germany. These were added to a fleet that already included Beach Club One Designs and Fish Boats, so that by the mid 1930’s there more than 40 actively raced keelboats at the club. The Atlantic fleet has remained active at CSHBC continuously since 1930, and today consists of nine active boats – some of them sailed by direct descendants of skippers and owners in the 30’s.    The fleet races every weekend and holiday from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, generally within the sheltered waters of Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay. The club also hosts an annual fall invitational regatta for the Atlantic Class – the Ted Janeway Memorial Series.

2010 TED JANEWAY MEMORIAL SERIES

The 2010 Annual Ted Janeway Memorial Series will be sailed on Saturday, September 18, as a one day regatta on the weekend prior to the Atlantic Class Nationals.  Please plan to join us.   Moorings will be provided for boats to stay through the Nationals, and a crane is available for launching / hauling from or to a trailer.

Overnight accommodations will again be provided by CSHBC members. There will be a casual gala on Saturday night at the CSHBC, and an informal race in CSH on Sunday afternoon that will not count for the Janeway trophy. The entry fee of $145 includes dinner for your crew of four on Saturday evening and is payable to Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club.  Please complete the entry form and return by Aug. 31.

The Saturday rendezvous will be north and east of Lloyd Point Gong 15 with the first gun at 1100 on September 26, 2009. If there is too much or too little wind, we will move into Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor to take advantage of the protected waters or thermal breezes. If conditions permit, we will plan slightly shorter races and hope to complete three races during the afternoon. The RC will be monitoring VHF Channel 78 for at least one hour prior to the first signal. Please plan to arrive on time – with only a one day schedule, we will not be able to wait for stragglers!
